Norway's social stystem

Adult immigrants in Norway have a right and an obligation to complete a minimum of 300 hours of Norwegian language training. 50 of these hours should be devoted to providing an insight into Norwegian society in the immigrant’s mother tongue or another language the person understands. The aim of obligatory Norwegian language training is to improve the immigrant’s chances of actively participating in the labor market and society.

In week 8 (22. – 26. February) our immigrants will participate in social studies, in total 25 out of 50 hours obligatory training. People with good English skills will be at Fredheim school, other immigrants have to travel to Drammen, a nearby town, where they are offered the course in their own mother tongue. Themes we work with during the complete 50 hours course are:

• Immigrants in Norway
• Democracy, welfare and values
• Health
• School, education and gaining qualifications
• Work, working life and labor market
• Children and family
• Population structure and nature

During the social studies course, we use special constructed web pages. These web pages are a supplement to the student book Intro, which provides an introduction to Norwegian social studies for adult immigrants.

Since YOU are coming to Norway in June 2010, I would strongly recommend you to take a peek into these pages. You will learn allot about our beautiful country's system. Have a nice trip into my world!

thanks, Bente. Let us to get more information about those curses when they had been realized.Perhaps a good article in the Blog with photos or videos could be fine to ilustrate your job with the inmigrants.
And of course we will inform about your beautiful country. June is near, and we want to enjoy Norway as we want to enjoy Turkey on April too.

Yes, I have planned to take a peek into the groups this Wednesday. We have split the participants into 2 groups; one with only men and the other with women. This way we hope to get a good conversation amongst them all.
I also plan to give them a questionaire with some of the questions both you and I have used on groups before. We'll see what comes out of it.......

The courses are very interesting and gives participants a basic knowledge about the norwegian socity. Another way for imigrants to provide information about the socity is to follow the news on TV and radio. It's also a way to learn the language.
