Team Norway ready for meeting in France

The “delegation” from Norway is an exiting “mix” of people, but we regard ourselves as colleagues since we all work with foreign people settling in our town of Kongsberg. We follow these people from asylum seekers to refugees up to self sufficient individuals in our society. This presentation starts from the left with Henri, and ends to the right with Cherif.

I'm Henri Filmand and I come from Cameroun, West-Africa. My mother tounge is French, but I also speak English and Norwegian. In Kongsberg I run a Taekwondo-club, which takes most of my spare time. I work for a private firm as a consultant for people seeking asylum in Norway. My main task is to keep people active whilst they are waiting for a reply from the Government. This include teaching them about shops and the town in general so that they can run their household, training/different social activities etc.

I am Ingrid Berge and I work as a refugee counsellor in Kongsberg. Every year we resettle approximately 30 refugees. Every person over 18 years are offered an introductory- program that gives them two year to prepare for and qualify themselves towards ordinary work or education. The refugee office work very closely with Fredheim in offering the participants different types of classes that help find employment more quickly or to get the education they need so that they become financially self- reliant.

Bente Grosvold is my name, and I come from the Olympic town of Lillehammer. I speak English, Italian and some Spanish, and I might surprise you with some French and German words and phrases too. My work is at Fredheim school for adults. We have people from all over the world here, and they all need to learn my language; Norwegian. The language is important – the key itself – to get a job and an easier life socially. I teach and I also try to give our participants a possibility of getting to know the labor market at the same time. This way they must use Norwegian actively, and they also get a chance to show their employer how good they work.

My name is Knut Aarvig. I have my daily work together with Bente at Fredheim. I function as a counselor for all our participants when it comes to education. Especially those at our primary school (junior high). Besides I also help those who want to verify their education, attend high school or university or authorization of their profession. Our school uses computers and computer related technology on a wide scale. It is therefore highly important that our computers and programs are functioning at all time. For me it is a challenge to maintain all the computers, their programs and to assist students and teachers if they are facing any problems. But it is rewarding each time I mange to solve a problem. Finally I also teach mathematics and science. This year I have the final class, and they are taking their degree in May and June.

My name is Cherif Ousman, I´m from Togo (west- Africa), but I have been living in Norway in 10 years. I speak French, Norwegian and English and I like music and dance. I work as adviser in free time and cultural activities for refugees and foreigners in Kongsberg. Our objective is to promote integration of refugees and foreigners in the Norwegian society trough their participation in cultural and free time activities. We cooperate a lot with sport and cultural clubs and associations of Kongsberg
